Top Drawer Soccer ranks Rangel and Gonzales among the best

Junior midfielder Mimi Rangel brought her career total to 10 goals and 13 assists this season.

Two players from the Long Beach State women’s soccer team were named on Saturday in Top Drawer Soccer’s top 100 collegiate players of the country.

Sophomore striker Ashley Gonzales netted her 15th career goal, her ninth game winner, on Oct. 11.

Junior midfielder Mimi Rangel came in at No. 87 while sophomore striker Ashley Gonzales squeezed in at No. 100. The 49ers were two of the three players from the Big West to make the midseason poll.

CSU Fullerton’s senior striker Rebecca Wilson was the only other player from the conference to crack the list; she ranked No. 82.

Gonzales is avoiding a sophomore slump by continuing the success that earned her the Big West Freshman Player of the Year award last year. The forward has six goals, five of which were game-winners.

Rangel is having a quieter statistical season with just two goals and three assists. However, she is one of the most active players on offense with 26 total shots and with a team-leading 18 shots on target; only Gonzales has more total shots than Rangel, with 32.

The duo led the 49ers to a hot start in the conference before UC Riverside and UC Irvine handed LBSU back-to-back losses this past weekend. Rangel netted the only goal for the 49ers across both games; she converted a penalty in the 2-1 loss against the Highlanders on Friday.
