The No. 21-ranked Dirtbags will take on the San Diego State Aztecs tonight at Blair Field.
The Dirtbags have won six of their last eight games resulting in three consecutive series victories. The Aztecs have won five in a row including a record-breaking 31-0 victory over Air Force on Sunday.
The Dirtbags will have their hands full with the offensive threats of Aztec infielder Nick Romero (.359 avg., 6 HR, 37 RBI), and outfielder Frank LoNigro (.333 avg., 6 HR, 34 RBI).
LoNigro is coming off of his best game of his career as he was 5-for-6 driving in 6 runs with two homeruns, two singles, and a triple in the Sunday win over Air Force.
The Aztecs batted around in four different innings while scoring in every inning except one. In addition, outfielder Brando Glover could pose a threat to the Dirtbags pitching staff as he is second on the team with 36 RBIs.
The Dirtbags are 15-19 all-time against the Aztecs and were 1-1 last season including a 16-4 victory at Blair Field.
The Dirtbags took two-of-three from UC Davis last weekend as they won Friday 6-5, fell 6-4 on Saturday, and prevailed in the finale 9-6 on Sunday.
The Dirtbags compiled a season-high 17-hit attack on UC Davis Sunday as shortstop Danny Espinosa returned to his old form as he went 2-for-3 with a double and had a team-high three RBIs.
He now is batting .319 on the season. Utility player, Shane Peterson continued his fine play and 13-game hitting streak as he went 5-for-11 with three RBIs in the series with the Aggies. In addition to his fine offensive play, Peterson also pitched a solid 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, and striking out three batters. Outfielder Robert Perry extended his hitting streak to 15 games.
