‘Niners take fifth and sixth places at Big West Championships
Senior Sarah Apgar led the 49ers in the women’s 6K race with an 11th place finish, crossing the line in 20:55:30. Senior Carly Harris was the second LBSU runner to cross the finish line, clocking at a time of 21:16:50 to take 17th. Other notable 49er finishers were junior Missy Barclay (24th, 21:33:70), senior Kristina Wilson (26th, 21:37:30) and freshman Jessica Barnard (51st, 22:48:80).
On the men’s side, sophomore Travis Kulhlman was the top 49er finisher, coming in 23rd with a time of 25:19:80. Sophomore Mark Thomas was the second LBSU finisher, coming in 25th at 25:21:30. Other finishers were sophomore Josh Ruff at 25:26:7 (29th), freshman Nick Kelley at 24:39:60 (33rd) and freshman Bret Hasvold at 25:47.6 (36th). The 49ers’ next race will be at the NCAA West Regional on Oct. 15 at the Stanford University Golf Course in Palo Alto.
Women’s basketball
LBSU to host exhibition game tonight
The 49er women’s basketball team is scheduled to play an exhibition game against Love and Basketball tonight at the Walter Pyramid. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
LBSU returns four starters from last season’s squad and will be led by seniors Karina Figueroa, Kaiti O’Brien and Lynea Williams.
Love and Basketball is a squad comprised of former collegiate players residing in the Southern California area.
The 49ers were picked to finish seventh in the Big West Conference preseason coaches’ poll and will begin the 2008-09 campaign on Nov. 16 when the San Diego State Aztecs visit the Pyramid for a 2 p.m. showdown.
I don’t believe they will have a chance to have a succesful season if Figueroa does not play
