During an annual address Wednesday, Associated Students, Inc. President James Ahumada commended the group’s accomplishments and urged senators to keep students first, despite any “bad press” or “being on the front page as some of us have been.”
On Oct. 5, the Daily 49er published an article entitled “CSULB’s student officials earn third highest pay in CSU.” The article included Ahumada and other ASI executives’ compensation numbers.
Ahumada’s “State of the AS Address” listed events ASI has coordinated, such as a Week of Welcome, a blood drive, Beach Pride Poolside and National Coming Out Day. He thanked the senators for their work in writing resolutions.
“I’m extremely proud, honored and humbled to serve as president this year with leaders like you,” he told the Senate. “We have a lot more work ahead of us … serving and keeping the students first.”
Continued goals included making the campus more bike-friendly, improving healthy food options and promoting shared governance. Ahumada proposed adding a secretary for environmental affairs and a secretary for veteran affairs to the ASI staff.
Student senators also viewed a video produced by College Beat Television called “I am ASI.” The video was designed to showcase opportunities for students to get involved in activities such as student government, recycling and the Union Weekly. It can be viewed at vimeo.com/13580862.
