This week, Teed Up hosts Matthew Gomez and Matthew Coleman are joined by former Long Beach State men’s volleyball player and current head coach Alan Knipe.
After a trip to the NCAA championship game in 1990, Knipe was a key member of the 1991 team that returned the following year to beat USC to capture the school’s first men’s national championship.
After a professional stint overseas, Knipe returned to the helm of the Long Beach State men’s volleyball program. He has since been named AVCA National Coach of the Year three times and led The Beach to back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019.
Knipe reflects on thirty years of the Walter Pyramid and the impact the iconic venue has had on LBSU Athletics and the unique home court advantage it creates. He also reflects on some of his favorite moments coaching his son and what to expect going into next season.
