Dirtbags make it 13 straight

AJ Pinocchio contributed a pinch-hit grand slam during the Dirtbags 21-run victory over visiting Loyola Marymount.

In emphatic fashion, the Dirtbags extended their winning streak to 13 games.

Long Beach State (35-14, 13-2) demolished host Loyola Marymount 21-2 in a non-conference game Tuesday. The winning streak is the longest the Dirtbags have had since they won 15 in a row in 1993.

It was a milestone win for head coach Mike Weathers, as it was the 500th win in his 17-year coaching career. Weathers has coached at Utah, Chapman and the last six years at LBSU.

In the 21-run, 24-hit slamming of the Lions, Jason Tweedy had six RBIs while going 4-for-5 from the plate. Chris Nelson had five hits and AJ Pinocchio hit a pinch hit grand slam.

LBSU will try to extend its streak to 14 games when it faces UC Riverside this Friday at Blair Field

The Highlanders are in second place in the Big West and the Dirtbags are in first.
