MTV’s ‘Laguna Beach’ soundtrack a mix of pop music hits

MTV’s “Laguna Beach” has released a soundtrack with songs that have been featured on all three seasons of the hit show.

The soundtrack, titled “Summer Can Last Forever,” is a combination of songs and dialogue taken straight from several of the show’s episodes and has quotations from the cast members.

The Interscope album, which is available in eight different covers and spotlights eight different cast members, includes the music that has helped shape the show’s storylines and emphasized the emotions of the cast. The soundtrack appropriately kicks off with the show’s theme song by Hilary Duff called, “Come Clean,” and is a classic pop hit.

The next musical track is the anthem of every Southern California teenager even with its shoddy lyrics. The soundtrack would not have been complete with out it -SoulKid #1’s “More Bounce in California.”

“Summer Can Last Forever” also includes a mixture of popular rock and pop songs.

“It Ends Tonight” by The All-American Rejects is an acoustic track that is an incredible version of the hit song and truly showcases the raw talent of the Oklahoma-based rock band’s lead singer, Tyson Ritter.

Punk-pop band New Found Glory’s newest single,'”It’s Not Your Fault,” is on this “Laguna Beach” soundtrack, along with Lifehouse’s “You and Me,” Sugarcult’s “Bouncing Off the Walls” and Dashboard Confessional’s “Rooftops and Invitations.” The songs from these established and popular bands are of a broad spectrum, either slow and over-romantic or upbeat and energetic.

The disc closes with another laid-back rock song by the group Atherton titled “California,” with lyrics that appropriate for the end of this soundtrack, stating, “Baby come back home to California.”

The soundtrack to MTV’s successful show “Laguna Beach” is a decent assortment of pop and rock songs. It is worth getting a copy if you just want a good mix of songs to listen to for a day at the beach. But the soundtrack could do without the ridiculous dialogue in-between the songs, which is almost as cheesy as the cast’s drama.
