The Long Beach State women’s volleyball team will be at home when it hosts Pepperdine in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday.
LBSU (25-5) was picked as one of 33 at-large teams to compete in the 64-team NCAA Tournament field, which was announced on ESPNEWS Sunday afternoon.
The Beach was also picked as a host site for the first two rounds of the tournament. No. 12 Hawaii (26-5) will face Oregon (17-11) at The Walter Pyramid at 5 p.m. and Pepperdine (16-11) will then face LBSU at 7 p.m.
It was the first time since 2001 that LBSU was picked as a host site for the NCAA Tournamnet.
The winner of those two matches will play in the second round, which will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday at The Walter Pyramid.
LBSU has advanced to 20 straight NCAA Tournaments and won the National Championship in 1989, 1993 and 1998.
