Junior Andrew Gagnon has been selected as the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time in three weeks. Gagnon guided the Dirtbags to a 2-1 victory over No. 18-ranked Rice.
Gagnon, who also won the award two weeks ago for his performance against Arizona, gave up one run off six hits in eight innings while striking out six batters last Friday against Rice.
The Brentwood, Calif. native has now faced four ranked opponents in four starts, lowering his ERA to 1.30 on the season with four runs allowed against Cal State Fullerton, Arizona, Oregon and Rice.
Gagnon’s honor marked the third consecutive week that Long Beach State’s pitchers had earned the award this season. Teammate Shawn Stuart was the recipient last week.
Gagnon became the 16th pitcher in Dirtbags history to be a two-time winner of the award.
