Complaints begin for the new iOS 8

IPhone users have already begun to complain since Apple Inc. released the latest operating system, iOS 8, on Sept 17.

Some users began complaining before downloading the operating system. One of the most popular complaints on the Apple’s support page has been that the latest iOS update requires the availability of 5GB to 7GB in order to download the update.

“I couldn’t update my iPhone immediately after the update was available,” George Jenkins, a junior history major, said. “First, I had to delete and save some of my pictures on my computer in order to update my phone because I didn’t have enough space.”

Since the iOS is taking so much storage space, many iPhones have slowed down, according to tech news website CNET. The majority of complaints regarding slow phones has been coming from those who own the 16GB iPhone, since they have only been left with 11GB to use, according to CNET.

“I am really surprised how much my phone has slowed down, considering I only have about 150 pictures saved on my phone and no music,” senior psychology major Lupe Diaz said. “My phone is so slow it even takes a while for it to recognize it’s being charged.”

The iOS 8 has also been linked to issues with slowing down data usage, according to CNET. Since the operating system was released, users have been claiming the Web on their phones has slowed down, reported CNET. People are upset because this issue has nothing to do with their Internet providers, but with their phones.

“Initially I thought it was an issue with the school’s Wi-Fi, but then I kept having the same problem at home,” Lisa Burke, junior international studies major, said. “I went online to find out if I could do some kind of reset on my phone to fix [the problem], but sure enough, I came across a bunch of websites saying it was an issue having to do with the update.”

Updating to the iOS has also affected iPhone user’s battery life, according to CNET. After updating to the new operating system users have noticed their devices significantly use up their battery much faster.

“It’s kind of annoying because I recently had an issue with my physical battery, so, I had to get it fixed. Now it’s not the actual battery, but the software that’s killing my battery,” Jenkins said. “[Apple] is always worried about having to update something. They should just take their time and make sure their releases are perfect.”
