Although he received the most votes in Tuesday’s mayoral election, City of Long Beach Vice Mayor Robert Garcia must still face off with mayoral candidate Damon Dunn in a June runoff election for Long Beach’s next mayor.
Garcia received 25.39 percent of the vote, which was the highest out of all 10 mayoral candidates, according to the Long Beach City Clerk’s website.
Dunn, who received roughly 1,200 votes less than Garcia, finished in second place with 22.26 percent of the vote.
In total, 40,589 Long Beach residents voted in the election, accounting for 14.24 percent of the population according to the city clerk’s website.
Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal finished in third place, followed by 5th District City Council members Gerrie Schipske and Doug Otto.
