Drunkabilly duo, Naked and Shameless, entertained the crowd of the Puka Bar on Saturday Night for the monthly Tiki- Tonk.
Tiki-Tonk can be compared to “Grease” on the beach, but replace John Travolta with Buck Naked in his dragon embroidered cowboy hat and Elvis sunglasses as he trudges around the stage like nobody’s business. Then, replace Olivia Newton-John with Dave Shameless in his wide stance playing his guitar into the bar fan while his blonde locks, equally as luxurious, flow in the wind.
Add a ton of cursing, a smack of social commentary and that is definably the incomplete description of Naked and Shameless, whose live performance was simply electrifying.
Chicago natives, Naked and Shameless have created this monthly event, featuring several singer/songwriter performers whose unique genre of Honkytonk and Tiki-Exotica brings people together to enjoy hilarious dirty musical comedy with a focus on drunks and drinking.
Saturday night’s Tiki-Tonk began with Alligator Dave from Austin, Texas. His set included songs such as “Pant Meat,” “Coconut Rum” and “Spank My Monkey.” The fan favorite, however, was “Eager Beaver,” a heartfelt song about a man teaching an unattractive woman how to correctly orally copulate him.
“I want this guy to sing at my wedding,” joked Robert Zoref, a recent graduate of Cal State Long Beach.
Dave was a comedic slapstick mastermind. His songs about sex, booze, drugs and the happenings in-between make his live show a definite must see and a hard act to follow.
Naked and Shameless were the second to perform and they truly lived up to their vivacious name.
Buck Naked, who recently married Pabst Blue Ribbon beer through Universal Life Church, was an energetic performer and matched perfectly with guitarist Dave Shameless.
Some of their songs included “Fuck Last Call,” “Drink Fight,” “Fuck,” “American S.T.D.” and “Four Food Groups.”
“Four Food Groups” was a jingle about the four food groups for a growing boy. Some lyrics included, “These are the nutrients to employ, if you want to crush, kill and destroy. We’re talking caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and pussy.” It became obvious that tofu, grass, soy and other healthy foods were not in these rockstars’ diets.
As the duo consumed an impressive amount of beer, they performed with a demeanor that shouted, “We’re going to take over the world! Or at the very least Long Beach.”
Naked and Shameless host Tiki-Tonk the last Saturday of every month at the Puka Bar.
