Former Cal State Long Beach President Robert C. Maxson has accepted a position as president of Sierra Nevada College, a small liberal arts college in Incline Village, Nev.
The 40-year-old school is on the north side of Lake Tahoe and south of Reno, Nev.
Maxson was president of CSULB from 1994 to 2006. Since his retirement, the four-time award winner of College President of Year for the California State University system has been serving as the special assistant to Charles Reed, the CSU chancellor.
“Sierra Nevada College is very lucky to get Bob and to pull him out of retirement,” said CSULB President F. King Alexander.”We did talk last week about this topic and I reiterated the very same message.”
Maxson, 71, was a popular president of CSULB before his retirement, and was notable for establishing the President’s Scholars Program and attending nearly all home LBSU athletics games.
Before his time at CSULB, he served as president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and was senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Houston.
“I am excited about joining the only private liberal arts college in Nevada,” said Maxson in a SNC press release.”Sierra Nevada College is a fine school, with a very good student body, a wonderful staff, and some of the best professors to be found any place in the country.”
