Classic Case’s second studio album “Losing at Life” is a thick, guitar-driven album that could be a rock hit.
The album opens with “Into the Nightmare,” a song that features call and response lyrics between vocalists Jared Draughon and Josh Moore. This type of vocal interplay, which is reminiscent of the band Jimmy Eat World, is a significant trait throughout the album.
The record is composed of primarily rock songs such as “Fatal Phrase,” “Devil’s Advocate” and “Vampires” but is also interlaced with melodic songs such as the title track and “Elevator Phobia.”
“Scott Free” is a fairly political track but Draughon is quick to point out that despite the song, the band is not political.
The band’s tongue-in-cheek title was born when Classic Case was on tour and when the guys asked a friend what he had been up to his response was “I’ve been up here, losing at life.” Although the title is light-hearted, Draughon wants people to know the album is serious too and that his lyrics “probe darker topics.”
Although Classic Case is not a well-known band right now, its newest album is worth adding to your collection. The songs are catchy, and you will find them stuck in your head long after you have stopped playing the album.
