Bolt, Silos honored

Long Beach State women’s soccer standouts, Hayley Bolt and Kim Silos dominated the offensive awards handed out by the Big West Conference coaches Tuesday.

Bolt was named the Big West Midfielder of the Year and Silos was named the Offensive Player of the Year.

“It was a great accomplishment, but I wouldn’t have done it without my teammates. They deserve a lot of the credit,” Bolt said, who was last season’s Big West Freshman of the Year.

Bolt was third in the conference with 20 points and second in goals with eight. Bolt was seventh in assists with four.

Silos’ 27 points for the 2006 season not only led the Big West, but set a modern-day record for LBSU. Silos also led the team and conference with nine goals and nine assists.

“[Bolt] was unbelievable for us this year,” Bolt said about her teammate’s performances. “Whenever we needed a big goal in a big game, she was there.”

Sahar Haghdan, Bolt and Silos were named to the all-conference first team, setting a school record for most LBSU players selected to the first team.

Prior to the 2006 season, only two other 49ers had been selected to the all-conference first team.
