Long Beach State men’s basketball head coach Dan Monson was among 24 All-District coaches to be selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches on Monday. The fourth-year head coach was named the recipient of the District 9 honor by the NABC.
Monson claimed the award after guiding the 49ers to the Big West Conference regular-season championship by four games over runner-up Cal Poly before earning a slot in the National Invitational Tournament.
He also led the ‘Niners to a 22-12 overall record, including a 14-2 mark in conference play that saw LBSU win 11 consecutive games before falling in the Big West Tournament title game to UC Santa Barbara.
Monson was also named Big West Coach of the Year in a vote of the conference’s coaches after the regular season.
