Fresh off an exciting come-from-behind Homecoming win, the 49ers play at Idaho State tonight before returning to The Beach for a Sunday afternoon game with New Mexico State.
LBSU (1-2) is paced by All-Big West Conference guard Donovan Morris, who is averaging 15 points per game after registering 20 in last Saturday night’s win over Weber State.
Stephan Gilling is averaging 11 PPG and has knocked down a team-high 10 3-pointers. Eugene Phelps is third on the team, and leads all LBSU freshmen with 9 PPG.
Junior forward Arturas Lazdauskas leads the team with six rebounds per contest.
Idaho State (1-2) opened its season with a 75-70 win at home against Eastern Oregon before falling at Hawaii, 67-64, and Boise State, 92-84.
The Bengals, like Weber State, are members of the Big Sky Conference.
They are led by a pair of juniors. Guard Amorrow Morgan is 27th in the NCAA in scoring at 23 PPG. Forward-center Demetrius Monroe is averaging a double-double with 13 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.
Last November, LBSU beat Idaho State, 66-61, in OT at the Walter Pyramid. Tip-off is at 6:05 p.m.
The New Mexico State Aggies, members of the Western Athletic Conference, are 2-1 on the young season. They beat UC Riverside, 79-52, but lost at then-19th ranked Southern California, 73-60. The Aggies returned home Friday night and beat Pepperdine, 90-66. They are off until they play at the Walter Pyramid Sunday night.
NMSU has a trio of players averaging double-digits in scoring. Guard Jahmar Young is scoring 18.3 PPG while forward Troy Gillenwater and guard Jonathan Gibson are scoring 17 and 15.3 PPG, respectively.
The ‘Niners lost to the Aggies, 80-48, in Las Cruces, N.M. in February. The game begins at 4:05 p.m. on Sunday at the Walter Pyramid.
