Harry Houdini (1874 – 1926)
The magician, born as Erik Weisz, died of gangrene and peritonitis after his appendix ruptured. He was known for his escapist tricks, which included his first buried alive stunt near Santa Ana, Calif. in 1915. Poof! And just like that, he’s gone.

Federico Fellini (1920 – 1993)
The Italian film director of bizarre films, which included 8 1/2 and La Strada, died from a cardiac arrest. Fellini’s films were known for its baroque and fantasy elements, in which the influential filmmaker never used the same actor for any of his pieces. His film La Dolce Vita popularized the term paparazzi after photojournalist Paparazzo (Walter Santesso). Cut!

River Phoneix (1970 – 1993)
The teen icon starred in films such as Stand By Me and My Own Private Idaho died from a drug overdose at The Viper Room in West Hollywood. His final and unfinished film called Dark Blood will premiere in 2012. RIP, RP!
