During the Latino Organization Fair Wednesday, San Diego natives Silent Lune provided some exclusive entertainment for the crowd, showing off their talent outside the University Student Union.
The three members of the up-and-coming rock trio made their way to CSULB on a mini college tour in an attempt to spread as much of their music to young audience as possible.
If the 90s grunge icons of Pearl Jam just happened to make a baby with the rockers of Social Distortion, Silent Lune could most definitely be result of their melodious love affair. The combination of simplified lyricism, original bass lines, along with edgy guitar solos, it was no doubt to students that this group possessed talent far beyond just your typical “garage band.”
“It’s been an emotional roller coaster,” said Roger Chavez, lead guitarist and front man.
“There’s a lot of psychology to our music,” Chavez said. “Love, loss, challenge, and dreams — these are all the elements we are trying to combine in our songs.”
Chavez, 29, met bassist Sean Drake, 25, through a Myspace musicians casting call. Chavez met drummer Jason Dean, 27, on another casting call through Craiglist.
Three years later, the group has traveled all over California trying to survive the cutthroat theatrics of the music industry while trying to promote their talent.
As the band head to their next destination, one thing remains clear: their talent is unquestionably true, but their love for music remains truer.
