Put roomies in their places if they can’t control their racket

My freshman year in the dorms was a blast. Nobody partied in my dorms because I chose the “Very Quiet” dorms in the Residence Halls. I slept and studied soundly during the weekends, thinking that things couldn’t possibly get any better.

It definitely got worse. In my sophomore year my neighbors kept yelling, screaming and shooting BB guns everywhere. And the neighbors upstairs raised hell with their midnight parties. I guess not everyone respects silence in the “Very Quiet” dorms.

Still, for dorm residents there are ways to make those party brats respect your peace at night and during finals week:

Talk to the noisemakers
Try to reason with them. Most of the time, the students will reason things out well. They usually know that the Residence Hall is a community and each person knows to respect other peoples’ privacy.

They might even stop shooting those damned BB guns. Or at least they’ll shoot them less frequently.

Tell your Resident Assistant
If they’re still raising a racket and will not listen to other people, talk to the R.A. This is one of the best ways to pester those annoying people upstairs who blast their stereo at 1000 decibels.

Even if they get irritated and find ways to call the R.A. to rat you out for some trumped up violation as a means of retaliation, at least they’ll be mindful that someone hates their parties.

Talk to the office
If your R.A. is a little dense and is not giving those bastards the throwdown, let the Residence Hall office know that there are extremely annoying party people who waste their lives blasting loud music, making love with strangers and sneaking beer in to waste themselves even more.

Besides, they should know better than to bring life from the bar into your dorm room.

Use earplugs or headphones
If they still don’t get the beatdown that they deserve, take the second-best solution — muffle out the noise. Earplugs are one of the best ways to silence the brats. You also can use headphones to listen to your own peaceful music.

After all, if the noise is causing too much pain, you probably deserve some classical music to help soothe your soul and relax your brain.
