The Pro/Celebrity Race qualifying race results are in and celebrities will be racing on Saturday.
Drew Lachey from the 90s pop band 98 Degrees and the winner of the second season of the hit television show “Dancing with the Stars” qualified for the main event, along with other celebrities including Wilmer Valderrama from “That ’70s Show” and William Fichtner from “Prison Break.”
The Pro/Celebrity Race is a charity race to benefit Miller Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Orange County. The race is also expected to raise “over $100,000 for Racing For Kids,” a charity organization aimed to raise funds for sick children through motorsports, according to the Racing For Kids Web site.
The 10-lap, 1.97-mile street circuit attracted Lachey’s need for speed. “You get to race very fast and legally,” Lachey said to the Associated Press. “That was one of the big draws for me to do this.”
Other drivers in the Pro/Celebrity circuit include Jamie Little, John Salley, Raymond Cruz, Daniel Goddard, Nancy Lieberman, Beccy Gordon, Bud Gordon, Mike Skinner, Tony Pedregon and others.
The drivers have practiced and will race in Scion tCs in tomorrow’s event starting at 11:40 a.m. The winner of the Pro/Celebrity race will receive $20,000 to donate to a charity of their choosing, separate from the race’s main charity.
