A meatwad does a body good

Hey, hey, where you at, dawg? We got the whole city behind ya,” says Master Shake in the fifth season of “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” released Jan. 29. “Where you at, dawg?”

I’m at home watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force, that’s where I am.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is a ridiculously outrageous Adult Swim cartoon about the crazy adventures of three talking fast food mascots: Frylock, Master Shake and Meatwad. Each episode is unique not only in its characters but also in its extreme plots.

I have to admit, I was initially repulsed by ATHF because I found the idea of such implausible characters to be absolutely absurd. But I warmed up to it, and finally decided to give the creators some props once I analyzed the content of the program a little more closely. I feel bad that I judged a book by its cover, especially when the content covers some pretty serious issues in a wacky and humorous way.

The show’s main characters grow their own pets, battle against evil penises and deal with burglar aliens from the moon, all for the means of satirizing some of the issues in today’s society.

Here’s a play-by-play of the fifth season:

“Dirtfoot” – Shake moves in to a well with the legendary dirt monster Dirtfoot as his roommate. Shake begins to question his sexuality when he finds out Dirtfoot is gay, forcing the characters to address gay rights.

“Boost Mobile” – This episode definitely pokes fun at product contracts. Shake makes a new friend and promotes Boost Mobile for the entire show. “Let me tell you about the chirp,” he says.

“Dickesode” – Through satire, ATHF addresses advertising methods some companies use. “Are you telling me I don’t know dick? If anyone knows how to build a ship out of dicks, it’s me” says Mr. Wong Burger. Carl, the neighbor, enters into a binding contract that gets him a makeover as result of such advertising. The most ironic part of this episode is watching Shake drink soda through a straw. I watched the uncensored version, and let me tell you, it was pretty graphic.

“Hand Banana” – Meatwad makes his own dog. But watch out now! This dog is a rapist with a crush on Carl, who has to constantly guard his fat behind.

“Party All The Time” – Frylock gets cancer. Shake throws a party for Frylock in an effort to cheer him up.

“Bart Oates” – Carl gets a visit from a favorite football player who betrayed Carl when he was traded to another team. Carl gets some coaching from Bart Oates.

“Global Grilling” – “Are those clouds on fire?” This episode focuses on the issue of global warming when a nuclear grill ends up burning a hole through the ozone layer, causing a tidal wave that washes over the fast-food trio. Meanwhile, Mucas Man comes to life.

“Grim Reaper Gutters” – The grim reaper makes a visit, but he’s not living until he makes a sale. Meanwhile, the gang bribes Carl into coming over with porn star Tera Patrick. I love how she’s on all fours this entire show, kind of degrading.

“Moonajuana” – Shake wants to grow marijuana, but Frylock doesn’t think it’s a good idea. Meanwhile, space aliens from the moon try to get the gang high so they can burglarize their home.

“Ezekiel” – Shake has a son, Ezekiel, who shows up at their doorstep. Shake doesn’t want to take care of him, but Frylock and Meatwad feel sorry for the mini-Shake. Shake definitely makes for a horrible parent. “Come on, Sucky, before you ruin the entirety of my future. The only reason God doesn’t erase you from the face of the earth is because you amuse him somehow,” says Shake to Ezekiel. Some parenting.

“Antenna” – Aliens take over Carl’s house by placing a huge antenna right on top of it, forcing Carl to watch nothing on television but aliens stacking boxes. Fry gets his own television show.

“Carl Wash” – The shape-shifting Meatwad discovers there’s more shapes to change into than an igloo and a hot dog. “All these shapes just freakin’ hurt my kidneys.” Carl becomes Meatwad’s first customer at the car wash.

“Star Studded Xmas Spectacular: Part 1 & 2” – Carl pimps out his ride but becomes a slave to his own “hypno-rims” with crazy aliens telling him what to do. Meanwhile, Shake gives commentary on some “deleted scenes.” As if Carl doesn’t play the victim enough in the preceding episodes, he is absolutely humiliated in this episode. “Carl, what are you doing? You join a fraternity or something?” This is hazing to the extreme, if you ask me.
