Fifty new President’s Scholars this fall semester are now making Cal State Long Beach their living and academic homes, according to the CSULB Office of Public Affairs.
The President’s Scholars – students on scholarship who either were high school valedictorians or National Merit finalists or semi-finalists – now number about 300 of the campus population of approximately 35,000.
The 2007 class of 50 scholars were chosen from nearly 600 applicants statewide, according the Office of Public Affairs. They come from areas throughout the state, even as far as Redding in Shasta County, which is approximately 570 miles north of CSULB.
“The President’s Scholars Program at Cal State Long Beach continues to be a state and national model for merit-based scholarship programs and it produces graduates who become leaders within their chosen fields and solid citizens within their communities,” said CSULB President F. King Alexander in a press release. “This year’s class of scholars was part of the most competitive process in the program’s history.”
The scholars’ benefits include a full, four-year scholarship that covers general student fees and tuition, on-campus housing, an annual book allowance and priority registration.
