Results from the Aug. 10 NCAA hearing in Indianapolis concerning alleged men’s basketball recruiting violations will probably not be announced until late September or early October, according to Dennis Farrell, Big West Conference commissioner.
The NCAA Committee of Infractions deliberated Aug. 12, precluding a five- to eight-week waiting period. Before public release, there is a process of editing and reviewing of the committee’s decision, delaying the time between the hearing and the final announcement.
The proceedings and outcome of the meeting are confidential, but “process-wise, [the hearing] was an opportunity for [the NCAA] to hear the facts of the case” first-hand from those who were involved and are a part of the university, according to Farrell.
The allegations against the university involve alleged recruitment violations of men’s basketball student-athletes, which were said to have taken place over the summer of 2005 under former head coach Larry Reynolds’ tenure.
The NCAA committee would not comment on the case.
