The Long Beach State men’s golf team shot an 18-over-par 306 in Tuesday’s final round to finish seventh at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert.
LBSU fell four spots to seventh in the team standings after carding 10-over 298 and 2-under 286 scores in the first and second rounds on Monday.
Freshman Raymond Ho paced the 49ers with a 4-over 76 in the final round to finish 15th on the individual leaderboard. Senior Steve Gibson produced the second best LBSU finish after tying for 18th with a three-round score of 5-over 221.
Senior Michael Drake and sophomore Kevin Roy tied for 43rd with a 10-over 226. Freshman Benjamin Lein tied for 70th with a 16-over 232.
Santa Clara captured the team title with an 8-over 872, edging Cal State Northridge by four strokes. Gabe Maier of Wyoming took home the individual title with an 8-under 208.
The 49ers will next participate in the three-day Prestige of PGA West from Oct. 11-13 in La Quinta, Calif.
Sophomore in 14th at Edean Ihlanfeldt Invite
Noelle Zavaleta posted a 4-over-par 76 to finish in a five-way tie for 14th in second round action at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Tuesday.
The Boise State transfer takes a 10-over 154 score into tomorrow’s final round at the 6,136-yard course at the Sahalee Country Club. The 49er women fired a 41-over 329 in round two to finish 12th.
Freshman Simone Hoey fired a 9-over 81 in the second round and currently sits in a six-way tie for 44th with a 19-over 163 total. Reina Rogers, currently in a tie for 50th, posted an 11-over 83 to bring her two-round total to 20-over 164.
Senior Brenda Chhuor shot a 17-over 89 to bring her tournament score to 26-over 170, placing herself in 62nd. Reece Feducia fired a 20-over 92 round, increasing her total to 37-over 181 to place her in 70th.
No. 13 California takes a 10-stroke lead over No. 24 Stanford heading into the final round, with a score of 23-over 599. The Golden Bears’ Pia Halbig leads the individual standings with a 2-over 146.
