Hundreds of demonstrators gathered Wednesday in central Long Beach to celebrate International Workers’ Day, also known as May Day.
Over a dozen organizations took part in the mile-long march that began at MacArthur Park and ended at Martin Luther King Jr. Park. Social issues impacting Long Beach such as workers’ rights, immigration, racial tensions, climate change, access to education and police brutality were at the forefront of the rally.
The May Day Long Beach Coalition, who organized the march, state in their manifesto they are “a coalition of diverse Long Beach community organizations that are united by a belief in the power of the people.”
