Cal State University Long Beach Alumni Association and the University Bookstore welcomes alumni and guests on Friday to kick off its annual Bookstore Open House by offering discounts, door prizes, free food and a fashion show from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the University Bookstore.
“We want alumni to come back to CSULB to reminisce and catch up with friends, while purchasing Beach gifts for family and friends at discounted prices,” said Sally Schliesmayer, Director of Special Events for the Division of University Relations and Development at CSULB.
Students and alumni can expect a discount of 15 to 25 percent applied to nearly everything in the store, from university logo clothing to holiday gifts and memorabilia.
The only limits on discounts apply to computers, software, class rings, and textbooks, due to manufacturer restrictions, according to Gay M. Arakawa, Executive Director of CSULB Alumni Association.
The first 200 guests will receive a limited-edition CSULB holiday plush ornament while guests can expect many other prizes, along with a free caricature artist, fashion show and performance by a harpist.
With over 500 reservations each year from alumni, faculty and staff, the annual tradition is held on every Friday prior to Thanksgiving, according to Schliesmayer.
“It’s great that the Bookstore Open House is part of Homecoming Week this year,” said Arakawa. “It’s also a wonderful time for alumni to meet each other on campus, and reconnect with former professors and staff that they knew as students.”
The Open House is a popular event with the CSULB faculty and alumni, and has constantly had a solid turnout each year, according to Schliesmayer
“This is a great place for alumni to begin their holiday shopping in a very festive atmosphere. I would hope that we continue to have this event for many years to come,” said Schliesmayer.
