After discussion over Long Beach State’s mascot, Prospector Pete, representing genocide, the school made the decision to find a new mascot to represent the university. The statue of the prospector, which sits by the Liberal Arts 5 building, will be removed from its current spot on campus. The Daily 49er sought out students to ask for their thoughts on the situation.
