After a long wait our favorite apocalypse survivors are back in action. Back in the twisted psuedo-utopia of Woodbury, the now depth-perception-challenged Governor has fully gone off the deep end and forced Daryl and his offensive one-armed brute of a brother to fight to the death.
Luckily for them, Rick and the gang arrived to cause mayhem and snipe a few locals. After the smoke had cleared, Merle was met with some opposition by Glenn, who is still sporting the shiner from their last meeting. After some discussion, Daryl decides to go with his brother instead of returning to the group, which made the group’s whole suicide mission fairly pointless. Glenn takes out his aggression on a zombie’s brain with his boot.
Meanwhile back at the prison, the rest of the group is deciding what to do with Tyrese, his wife Sasha and their friends Alex and Ben. Alex and Ben immediately want to overthrow the place by stealing guns from Carol and Carl. I wouldn’t be surprised if Alex and Ben become walker-lunch in the coming episodes. It just seems like the show is setting them up to be slaughtered. Tyrese and Sasha seem like keepers though. Seems stupid of Hershel to offer them a pickaxe though. Rarely is a pickaxe introduced on this show without it being used on somebody’s skull.
The implied romance between Carol and Daryl (Caryl?) has seemed forced up until this point, but her monologue comparing Merle and Daryl’s relationship to her relationship with her abusive husband kind of made me understand their connection. Also they may be attracted to each other because they have very similar hairstyles.
Back in Woodbury, the locals are starting to understand their happy village may not be so peaceful after all. Upon leaving Merle let a few walkers in and a poor guy got munched on. Andrea earns back a bit of respect by fighting them off before the Governor emerges to pop a cap in the guy without saying a word.
The Governor hasn’t taken the loss of his eye very well. He knows where the prison is and he’s looking to start an all-out war. Unless Rick and the gang team up with their new prison-mates, they don’t stand a chance. Unfortunately in the process of deciding what to do about the situation, Rick goes a bit nuts and starts talking to his dead wife again. That kind of thing is best left to imaginary phone calls, dude.
Thoughts and highlights:
Where the hell has Axel been the past few episodes? I fully forgot he was a character at all.
Looks like it definitely might not be Rick’s baby. She doesn’t seem to like him very much.
It’s getting pretty tough to believe that their mint-green Hyundai Elantra they’ve been driving is still functional. Where did they find that thing? How is it still running? At least throw some dirt on the thing if we’re meant to accept it.
I would love to make it through an episode without Chris Hardwick yelling at me about “Talking Dead” every commercial break. It really cheapens the intense moments when they’re immediately followed by him saying “Oh man wasn’t that crazy? Hastag talking dead!”
Michonne and Andrea were definitely a couple right? It’s at least HEAVILY implied.
Glenn stomping that poor walker’s head in like a watermelon was the highlight of the episode. Still can’t believe this is allowed on basic cable.
Hershel’s ponytail: still righteous as f*ck
Kind of a top-heavy episode this week with a anticlimactic ending. Let’s hope that the coming war will lead to some exciting stuff. I definitely want to see Michonne unsheathe that katana again. Can’t wait.
