BRIEF: Committee backs student library fee

The Student Fee Review Committee passed a recommendation Thursday that the Gerald R. Sherratt Library receive a $5 student fee starting Fall semester 2010.

The recommendation will now go to the SUU Board of Trustees, the President’s Council and the Board of Regents for approval, according to the SUU Policies and Procedures.

If the student fee is approved, the money will primarily be used to finalize databases.

‘I personally look at the library and I know these are tough budget times but I think the library is an essential part of the educational experience on campus,’ SUUSA President Cody Alderson said. ‘Based on what (Interim Dean of Library Media John Eye) said, we’re basically falling behind, especially the way the university is going. I think it is important that we have something to support the library.’

The Student Fee Review Committee will meet Thursday at 7 a.m. in the SUUSA conference room. Students are encouraged to attend and share their input during open forum time.
