Senate will postpone ‘Open Lunch’ resolution

Lucy Montano, ASI Vice President (middle) takes attendence during ASI's senate meeting that discussed the open lunch resolution, college council allocation of funds and many other topics in the Senate Chambers yesterday.

The “Open Lunch” resolution was postponed until April 30 during Wednesday afternoon’s Associated Students, Inc. Senate meeting amid debate over the proposed experiment.

The resolution proposes that a study be conducted into an “Open Lunch” period, where no classes are scheduled on the Cal State Long Beach campus between the hours of noon and 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

According to the resolution, the proposed period would allow students to attend club meetings and have time “set aside for the extracurricular use of the CSULB student body.”

If passed, it will allow a subcommittee to be formed within the ASI Senate to determine its feasibility.

The postponement of the resolution was partly due to the upcoming ASI elections on April 21 through April 24, in which the ballot will feature a question asking students about their thoughts on the “Open Lunch” period.

If given the green light, the study’s representatives will talk to students and faculty to collect their opinions on the “Open Lunch” proposal and whether or not they would use the one-hour period to undertake extracurricular activities on campus.
