Pair of ‘Niners turn in top-20 performances

The Long Beach State women’s golf team jumped out to fifth place on the first day of the Lamkin Grip Invitational in Arroyo Grande, Calif.

The 49ers finished a shot behind Fresno State and Southern Utah, which are tied for third place with a 314 total. UC Riverside led the 17-team field with a 304 round while the Highlanders’ Amelia Ek shot 1-under-par 72 to lead all golfers.

Simone Hoey and Rochelle Chan paced The Beach as both fired a 5-over 78 to tie for 19th place.

Lindsey McAtee (79), Monica Villarreal (80) and Reina Rogers (81) rounded out the scores for the ‘Niners.

LBSU’s final round will start Tuesday at 8:36 a.m.
