The Long Beach State men’s basketball team will appear on FSN Prime Ticket three times this season as part of the Big West Conference television package, unveiled today by commissioner Dennis Farrell.
The schedules features 21 games on the ESPN and FOX platforms, including ESPN2, ESPNU, FSN West and FSN Prime Ticket.
The 49ers first appear on the schedule against visiting UC Riverside on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Walter Pyramid. LBSU will then host the Pacific Tigers on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Walter Pyramid. The ‘Niners will also visit CS Northridge and the Matadome on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m.
Four games from the 2009 Big West Tournament at the Anaheim Convention Center in March will be showcased. ESPNU will show the two men’s semifinal games on Friday, March 13 and ESPN2 will air the men’s championship game the following day at 9 p.m. PST. FSN Prime Ticket will broadcast the women’s championship game on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m.
All nine Big West schools will appear at least once in the television package and games will take place from seven different campus sites in the conference.
CS Fullerton, the defending Big West Tournament champions, will appear three times on ESPN2 or ESPNU in the 76 CLASSIC, which is an annual eight-team Thanksgiving men’s basketball tournament hosted by the Big West at the Anaheim Convention Center. The Titans will open the tournament against Wake Forest of the Atlantic Coast Conference in a Thanksgiving Day battle on ESPN2.
Also featured on the schedule, ACC and national powerhouse North Carolina, last year’s Final Four runner-up, will travel to the Thunderdome to face UC Santa Barbara on Friday, Nov. 21. The game will air on ESPNU.
“This season’s television schedule represents the most extensive broadcast package for the Big West Conference in over a decade, as it includes eight guaranteed national broadcasts on the ESPN platform, not counting the North Carolina at UC Santa Barbara game,” said Farrell. “The conference also maintains a strong presence in our regional footprint with eight men’s regular season games and women’s tournament championship game on FOX. This is an excellent opportunity for our schools to showcase their basketball programs.”
The Big West package tips off Thursday, Jan. 8 as the Titans travel to Cal Poly for an 8 p.m. game on ESPNU.
