
BuskerFest was the final shout in the season-long showcase of music and arts that was part of Long Beach’s Summer and Music concert series.
In its sixth year, the free all-ages event offered a taste of some of what this city has to offer in live entertainment.
The event was held on Sept 6. and featured over 10 bands and artists playing on four different stages.
Walking toward downtown’s East Village, attendees could hear the sounds of the Long Beach music scene.
With open shops, food, beer and the entirety of Downtown a few blocks away, the event also offered attendees the experience of Long Beach’s nightlife.
As attendees explored the festival, they were handed wooden coins. People would pick their favorite artist by giving them one of their wooden coins.
The name BuskerFest is a nod to “buskers” –street musicians who perform for tips.
The musicians who ended up with the most tokens would be considered the winners of the night, Long Beach based band Bearcoon was awarded recording studio time.
Genres ranged from Hip-Hop, to Folk and Indie, all performed on stages made from the backs of flatbed trucks exclusively showcasing local Long Beach talent.
Local bands like Thy Squid and The Moderates, got amazing praise as the crowds that gathered from stage to stage hoping to hear the best new talent out of the city.
The event lasted from 5 to 11 p.m., with food stands and beer gardens spread through the street.
This steady supply of food and entertainment brought a great vibe of excitement while people waited for musicians to begin performing.
Like a tennis match, audiences would bounce from one stage to another as musicians would start to perform from opposite sides of the street.
There was a lot of walking and standing, creating traffic that made it somewhat of a hazard for all those looking for new music.
However, music lovers waited and cruised around the fest to hear the sounds being developed out of the Long Beach music scene.
Whether attendees are looking for a night out with friends or simply just music connoisseurs looking to expand their eclectic tastes, BuskerFest is an annual event for people to experience new local talents.
