Long Beach State women’s volleyball head coach Brian Gimmillaro announced the addition of Rob Koehler to the coaching staff for the 2011 season as the team’s volunteer assistant coach on Thursday.
Koehler, who has spent the last seven years coaching in some capacity, most recently working as a volunteer assistant coach for the women’s volleyball program at Marquette University.
He also spent one season as the head coach for the boy’s volleyball team at Waukesha West High School in Wisconsin.
“We’re happy that we finalized our staff with someone with such great ability,” Gimmillaro said in a statement. “Rob is a perfect complement to our program. He was an outstanding college player and has good experience in coaching. We’re fortunate that someone of his caliber is willing to help us in this capacity.”
A teammate of current 49ers assistant coach Matt Ulmer at Carthage College, Koehler was a two-time All-American as a middle blocker, and advanced to the national championship twice.
Koehler finished his time at Carthage in 2008 as the school’s career leader in total blocks, block assists and blocks per set. His 1.11 blocks per set remains the school record.
