The university will be contesting the NCAA sanctions regarding alleged men’s basketball recruiting violations, and plans to file an appeal by an Oct. 1 deadline, Cal State Long Beach President F. King Alexander said Friday afternoon.
Among the violations the university was found guilty of by the NCAA was a “failure to monitor,” according to Alexander.
“They want us to come back and they want to investigate … [the] ‘failure to monitor,’ ” Alexander said. “We think that the decision is highly questionable, and we’re working to put together sort of an appeal document to that.”
The violations CSULB may be penalized for involve recruitment of student-athletes in 2005.
