Photo Club to hold art show Saturday

Room 108b in FA-4, was full of energy and commotion Tuesday afternoon. The Photo Club held its first meeting to discuss their upcoming group art show opening this Sunday, February 15th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Hosted at the Gatov West Gallery, this will be their third consecutive group art show.

“In the past semesters we’ve been to Joshua Tree, Sequoia National Park, and this semester we chose Las Vegas,” said Rebecca Kosturko, one of the Photo Club leaders.

After using pristine nature as their backdrop, Las Vegas is quite an extreme from Joshua Tree and the Sequoias. “We wanted to change it up and see what we could in a city like Vegas.” Kosturko said.

Vegas Vacation will showcase, “Our take and artistic look on Vegas,” said Spencer Harding, another Photo Club leader. Spending three to four days during winter break these artists used and abused Vegas as their muse. Harding even shared that one of the artists only stayed for 12 hours.

The Excalibur Hotel was used as their base of operations.

The Photo Club will be featuring works by 16 different artists, each of the artists working with their own craft and medium.

The group consisted of photography majors, drawing/painting, illustration and graphic design art students.

With such a diverse and eclectic group of artists you can only imagine the art produced for such a show.

“We just want to have fun, and it’s nice to work with a community and collective of artists on shows like this one,” said Nicole Gordinez, photo club officer.

This Sunday’s art show will also showcase John Norris’s photography and video to examine some of society’s problems, Erin Elowe’s sculpture and jewelry and a BFA Metal show titled “What is Pocket Change?”

For those who don’t know, there are free art shows every Sunday in the art galleries.

After a long week of work and school, come enjoy good art, raging music, free food, and free beverage, sometimes alcoholic if you get there early. What else could you need?

This shouldn’t be a quote because it’s not an opinion, it’s a fact.
