Universal brings horror from the movies to reality

La Llorna lurks guests after they are dropped off by the Terror Tram onto the backlot.

Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights 2010 delivers plenty of scares through several gruesome mazes as well as scare zones. The daring can endure and immerse themselves into some of Universal’s most haunting slasher films.

Before entering the mazes, it is advised to visit the Terror Tram first due to long lines. This year, Chucky has taken over the Terror Tram and guests must survive walking through movie sets where zombies and monsters await them. Beware of La Llorona because she will be lurking between the sets.

The Terror Tram skips King Kong 3-D 360. Those who want to visit King Kong can enter a special line where trams will shuttle guests to the ride.

The “Klownz” scare zone, located by the entrance, will send patrons screaming. Guests are chased by gruesome clowns wielding chainsaws, as well as demented clowns on stilts.

To get to the Rob Zombie maze, crowds of people have to venture through the “Lunaticz” scare zone where the disturbed White Chapel Asylum inmates have escaped.

“Rob Zombie’s House of 1,000 Corpses in 3-D Zombievision” was among the most anticipated mazes for this year. Captain Spalding and his minions wait as guests are distracted by enhanced 3-D images and gore.

Toward the center of the park, guests must make their way through the “Nightmarez” scare zone before visiting Freddy Kreuger.

The “A Nightmare On Elm Street: Never Sleep Again” maze brings victims to relive the Badham pre-school, Springwood High School and the boiler room. Freddy may appear from the walls and behind doors. However, as terrifying as Freddy is, no one can forget about Jason.

The “Friday the 13th: Kill Jason, Kill” maze is located across from the “La Llorona” scare zone where “the weeping woman” will be wailing for her dead children. Guests can explore Camp Crystal Lake by going through the campgrounds, through the Vorhees home and into the underground tunnels. The stench of corpses will fill visitors’ lungs at the end of the tunnel where they must fight their way out.

Following the escalators down to the bottom half of the park, near Jurassic Park, guests come face-to-face with Jigsaw from the “Saw” series. His followers await you in the “Pigz” scare zone lurking around every corner. “Saw: Game On” brings some of the most iconic traps made by Jigsaw to life for guests within the maze. Behind each door and wall, Jigsaw’s followers wait and wear the infamous pig head masks.

The wait for mazes varies from 30 minutes to a little over an hour but front of the line passes are available for purchase.

Halloween Horror Nights will continue on the weekends until Oct. 31.

The University Student Union sells tickets at student prices or they can be purchased at halloweenhorrornights.com.
