Get ready to be thrown back to the ’60s and ’70s during the groovy “Purple Revolver” music festival this Saturday at Rainbow Harbor from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Purple Revolver is set to be a great time for all ages. Students at Cal State Long Beach will be able to enjoy a day of beer, vintage shopping and music at this local event.
The three headliners are tributes to the some of the era’s biggest bands. “Britain’s Finest” is a tribute to “The Beatles,” “Queen Nation” is a tribute to “Queen,” and “Led Zepplica” is a tribute to “Led Zeppelin.”
“It sounds like it will be a good experience because you can’t see most of those bands live anymore,” senior film major Shaina Montiel said. “It’s nice to have the opportunity to see that music performed in a venue so close to school.”
The festival will also have a selection of gourmet food trucks, including some scrumptious burgers from “Baby’s Badass Burgers,” french fries on a stick at “Tornado Potato,” and for dessert, some Hawaiian shaved ice at “A Rockin Ice.”
This event will have a beer garden where people can purchase beer from “Pyramid Breweries” and have a good time drinking with some friends and getting toasted.
For those who are interested in vintage vehicles from the ’60s, there will also be a classic car show. Car enthusiasts can expect to see Ford Mustang’s and Dodge Charger’s. Although the theme focuses on old-fashioned cars, there will also be modern eco-friendly cars as well as famous TV show cars. Those who are 18 and over can enjoy listening to people sing along to hits from the ’60s through the ’90s in the Karaoke Lounge. People can expect to have a good time, as participants will do their best to mimic famous performers like Michael Jackson.
For those who aren’t too keen on antique cars or classic tunes, a Look-a-like Contest will also be held. Those interested in performing must enter the contest before 1 p.m. and should be ready to fully embody whomever they are imitating. The winner will be awarded a surprise grand prize.
The “Purple Revolver” will also include a retro festival where attendees can shop for anything from fashion to auto parts. Whether you’re looking for a Hippy Halloween costume or you just fancy the attire of the ’60s and ’70s, there will be plenty of fun trinkets to choose from.
Throughout the festival, guests can enjoy a tie-dye booth, a photo booth and a cigar lounge. These attractions will also be a part of the Retro Festival.
