Now that school is back in session, things can get pretty stressful. Luckily, there are smartphone apps that can help manage responsibilities and improve college life.
iStudies pro
This $2.99 app is the perfect tool for managing school work and time during the semester year. Students can keep track of their GPA, grades on assignments and their class schedules. As well, push notifications will remind users when assignments are due. After copying the class syllabus into the app, the paper version will never be needed again. It also syncs with a computer program which makes it easier to update information when necessary.
Chegg
The Chegg.com app has been on display on iPads in the Cal State Long Beach bookstore since last year, but it is even more useful on a smartphone. With the Chegg app, the barcode of any textbook can be scanned and compared to the price of a Chegg rental. It is also an option to rent books directly from the app and have them shipped immediately. It’s even possible to check the shipping status of your books once you’ve ordered them. When the semester is over, the app will send reminders of which books still have to be returned. With the high price of books these days, this app could save students hundreds of dollars.
GroupMe
Group projects have never been easier now that GroupMe is around. One year after its launch, Skype purchased the app for $85 million. GroupMe gives out a temporary phone number that can be used by members of a group to text message each other and arrange meetings, no matter which phone they have. The GroupMe app for iPhone and Android organizes these conversations into an easily readable format, and even has a GPS function that can help people in the group find each other. Plus, it can organize conference calls for the times when the group can’t actually get together in person.
Wunderlist
College is stressful, and sometimes it is hard to keep track of everything. Wunderlist is a to-do list app that makes it easy to keep track of daily responsibilities. Simply enter a list of things that need to get done, and it is turned into a checklist that can be crossed off as each item is finished. It will even send a notification if one of the items on the list is past due. The simplicity of it is what makes it work so well, plus it’s a free download.
Mint.com
Managing money in college is hard, but Mint.com has created an application which can help. The app connects to a bank account and can tell the user how much money they have at any time without having to sign into an official bank website. Plus, the app helps to create and manage a monthly budget, and will warn the user if they are spending too much. The account can also be used on the Mint.com website, which has other free tools for personal finance management.
