The SUU men’s and women’s track teams will focus to improve personal strength in individual events at Northern Arizona this Friday after a successful first meet at Idaho State last Friday.
SUU head track coach Eric Houle said the team will focus on events that will be performed at the conference championships.
‘(The Team) will work on primary events,’ Houle said. ‘Last week the focus was on (other) events.’
Houle said the condition training will help enhance the performance of the athletes’ primary events.
Senior Sharla Manuele, whose primary event is the mile-run ran the 800-meter and 3,000-meter at ISU. Now she will run the mile-run at NAU.
‘This meet (the team) will be put in events they have the strongest speed in to see where they’re at for conference,’ he said.
He said the schools that will be at the meet will include both Arizona and Northern Arizona State, who Houle said are the biggest and strongest schools in the conference.
‘We’re going to face the best competition,’ Houle said.
He said the team will not focus on the total score overall this meet, but on individual scores.
‘We’ll do what we can to do better in the (individual) events so we can keep our direction on all events,’ Houle said.
He said the meet will have ‘really tough’ competition.
‘We can’t avoid tough competition,’ Houle said. ‘It’s tough.’
He also said the team will have to make the decision to rise or give up.
‘If not this weekend, they will the next weekend,’ Houle said.
