Mulder and Scully make a comeback in theaters

“X-Files: I Want to Believe” disappoints critics but finds itself back in the hearts of loyal fans. It only made $10.0 million in the box offices its opening weekend, but was rated a 6.9 out of 10 on IMDB, 6.7 out of 10 by users on Rottentomatoes.com and a “B” rating on Yahoo! Movies by viewers.
This science fiction thriller sequel to the hit 1990’s series is set to “stand alone” for audiences who know nothing about the series itself. However, fans of the show will not be disappointed by the long awaited return of their favorite characters Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
The film’s story line had been kept under wraps and the preview itself only shows glimpses of the plot. The filmmakers went as far as making fake scripts for the actor auditions just to keep the script a secret. They even created code names for the movie like “Done One.” Even while filming, scripts were given for that day only and shredded at the end of each. For me to describe too much of the plot or even give a detailed review would almost undo what the creators intended.
Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) haven’t lost their passions in life. Mulder is still seeking to find the truth, and yet still believes in the possibility of the supernatural. On the other hand, Scully is still an intelligent and amazing physician who never gives up on a life, even when the chances of survival are slim. The two piece together the plot while the audience ravels in the idea of not aliens, but life itself. This movie seems to grasp an idea that helps us understand why these two characters can love each other so much, but struggle at finding a place to co-exist in a world that seemed to stop believing in anything.
Father Joe (Billy Connolly), a convicted pedophile with unexplained psychic readings, leads Agent Dakota Whitney (Amanda Pete) to severed body pieces and clues to find a killer. This is as much of the plot you will need, and everything else will be questioned, dissected and explained inside the movie. There will be no explosions or motion picture CGI effects. There is just real people living in real situations and trying to find something to hold to or believe in. If you want a break from the superheroes, “X-Files” is the movie to watch.
