Letter to the Editor – Finals finished for San Diego State drug dealing suspects

More than a dozen students from six fraternities at San Diego State University were arrested for suspicion of openly dealing drugs on campus.

Agents found cocaine, ecstasy and three guns at the Theta Chi house, where the students were arrested Tuesday morning. Of the 95 people arrested, 18 were identified as students who were wanted on warrants for selling to undercover agents.

The students who have been arrested are suspended and blocked from going to class, or participating in their final exams, as stated by the SDSU President Stephen Weber. He added that the fraternities occcupying university-owned homes were put out.

Weber is determined to remove those who risk the lives of other students. Fraternity members allegedly dealt drugs to a point where prices for cocaine were given via text message and, according to an affidavit the drug money may have been used for operations the fraternities ran.

Dale Taylor, the national executive director of Theta Chi, was said to be both shocked and saddened by the allegations. Sadly, the members of the SDSU Theta Chi chapter not implicated have been prohibited from any group activities due to the ongoing investigation. This investigation may lead to the expulsion of innocent members or the entire chapter.

Investigators said they suspect that many students in these fraternities were aware that drug dealing was taking place in their own homes.

It’s a tragedy that a few greedy students gave the university a black eye.
