Bringing it back forward in the Beach Auditorium

The Campus Progressives Collective, Ojel 2 Know, the Sociology Student Association and other groups present Bring it Back Forward: Practical Applications of Ancient Truths. This event will be held today in the Beach Auditorium from 6:30 p.m to 10 p.m. Admission is free.

“Bring it Back Forward is intended to bring to light how our ancestors understood the interconnectedness between our bodies, nature and universe,” said Angelica de la Pena, event organizer and Ojel 2 Know creator.

De la Pena said the techniques of the ancients helped humans to be more aligned spiritually, physically and mentally. She said by sharing and adopting these practices, all will began to heal the community and others.

“We wanted to make this event because most CSULB students are aware of the pressing global crisis, social and political injustices, and the ever-increasing debt that is accruing. But instead of hearing what is wrong in our society, this event is an opportunity for our community to hear what we can do about it,” De la Pena said.

The three guest speakers were obtained through Ojel 2 Know, a conscious-lifestyle, public relations outlet for the Southern California community that promotes community well-being through lifestyle choices.

Guest speakers include herbalist and acupuncturist Kali Alexander, host of Divine Forces Radio KPFK Fidel Rodriguez and a healing music performance by GIFTED and BLESSED.

Alexander will be discussing the importance of holistic practices and the understanding of nature. She will emphasize the use of alternative medicine such as acupuncture, herbs and plants. Alexander is a licensed acupuncturist and merbalist with a Master’s in traditional Chinese medicine.

Rodriquez will discuss indigenous teachings of North, Central and South America. He will talk about how he has applied these ancient teachings to his own life.

Rodriquez is a graduate of University of Southern California and is a McNair Scholar with a bachelor’s degree in Chicano and African-American studies. His show, Divine Forces Radio (90.7 FM), is host to many in-studio guests and blends hip-hop music with education. It can be heard on Friday nights from 10 p.m. tp 1 a.m.

GIFTED and BLESSED creator is composer Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker, who is the art and music coordinator for Ojel 2 Know. The music is intended to create and sustain moods that allow the mind to unravel and heal itself. GIFTED and BLESSED will perform and explain the properties of healing sound.
