LBSU loses first Big West series
After splitting Saturday’s doubleheader with CS Fullerton (won 3-2 in eight innings, lost 2-1), the No. 15-ranked 49ers lost 2-1 in the second Saturday game and 3-0 Sunday. LBSU (37-14, 13-5 Big West) lost consecutive games for the first time since dropping two in a row to No. 23-ranked Hawaii Feb. 15 and 16. Freshman pitcher Brooke Turner improved her record to 24-4 this season and is two wins shy of tying the LBSU single-season record of victories currently held by her older sister Michelle.

Poutre selected as new head coach
William Poutre, former head men’s golf coach at the University of Hartford, was selected as the new head coach for the 49ers, replacing Bob Livingstone, who retired last week after 14 years at the helm. Poutre was the America East Conference Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2007.
