In support of this week’s Associated Students, Inc. student government elections, the opinions page offered the presidential candidates who met our deadlines the opportunity to publish their self-written platforms.
My name is Eyad Aljubran and I am a junior majoring in human resources management and international business. Throughout my involvement at Cal State Long Beach, I gained professional development and was exposed to the great resources our campus offers.
I take great pride in The Beach and I consider myself a product of this great institution. I am running as your Associated Students, Inc. president to give back to our school by serving you, the student. I am currently the president of the College of Business Administration Student Council.
One of our goals of this academic year for the Associated Business Student Organizations Council was to promote a sense of unity. My leadership style consists of being both the chief and the Indian. I’ve learned to balance delegating and completing tasks as an individual.
As a result of our hard work, we hosted the Meet the Industries Expo at the Queen Mary, with a record-breaking attendance of 470 participants and 47 companies. This event provided professional workshops, a lunch with a phenomenal keynote speaker and a career fair. These are the kinds of accomplishments I plan on bringing to ASI.
To begin with, my platform is based on student opinions about improvements needed at the university. As ABSOC president, I had the privilege to begin establishing relationships with key figures in CSULB’s Administration, including Vice President of Student Services Doug Robinson and Director of Student Life and Development Jeff Klaus.
As ASI president I will be working very closely with CSULB Administration, so building relationships are vital. Several examples of improvements include the lack of communication between ASI and the student body, issues with academic advising, tuition increases, environmental awareness and enhancing safety measures on campus.
Using this proactive approach, we can better serve the student body by setting realistic goals that can be reached in conjunction with the support and cooperation of the CSULB administration.
For example, students have expressed their dissatisfaction with their academic advising. Therefore, I consulted with the Academic Advising Center regarding the concerns of the students, discovering that we can easily access the facts through discussing our concerns with the campus administration.
Many of these programs are open for suggestions, and all ASI needs to do is communicate the students’ concerns in order to make the necessary improvements.
As your ASI president, I vow to maintain a quality standard of communication with the student body and the departments that affect them. I promise to keep students first, taking a proactive approach to generate the results needed to improve the campus experience of every CSULB student.
I have the official support of the student councils for the College of Business Administration, the College of Engineering, and the College of the Arts – and now I need yours. Vote for a candidate who is running for results; the kind of results that have a profound impact on every student.
Voting will be done online for the first time in CSULB history. I encourage you to vote on April 21-24. Vote Eyad Aljubran for ASI president.
