Christian Fittipaldi and Johnny Mowlem raced in today’s Tequila Patron American Le Mans Series at Long Beach at the same time, but in different classes.
Fittipaldi, the driver of the No. 26 car, placed fourth in the P2 class and sixth overall in the American Le Mans Series. Fittipaldi commented before the race on his experience driving a prototype car.
“They’re very durable,” Fittipaldi said. “They’re also very quick in the corners and also quick on the straight compared to a Champ car but very, very similar speeds in a corner compared to a Champ car. They’re really fun and I really enjoy them.”
Fittipaldi is a veteran at the Long Beach course, as he said he’s raced here at least 10 times before.
Mowlem, the starting driver for the No. 48 car, said before the race, “I love the track. I think the car is well suited to the track because there’s a lot of fast corners and heavy breaking.” Mowlem drives a Ferrari 430 Berlinetta.
“I’m just thrilled to be part of this event,” Mowlem said. “I’ve always wanted to race at Long Beach. It’s just great to be here and be a part of the whole show.”
Mowlem placed fourth in the GT2 class and 17th overall in the ALMS race.
