Nano: student companion

For something that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand, Apple Inc.’s third generation iPod nano packs quite the entertainment value. Besides its sleek and colorful exterior, the nano is quite the catch when it comes to personal enjoyment.

Since September 2007, the nano has proven to be a great buy with consumers.

At only $149 for the 4 GB, you can purchase the iPod and still have money left over for some fun accessories like the iTrip for your car and a colorful cover to protect it from scratches.

This nano offers a bright, two-inch screen that has a 320 x 240 pixel count, which provides a significant increase in the brightness than what the last generation had. The biggest deal maker is its video capabilities, like two choices of memory capacity, 24 hours of audio playback, games, a bright screen and video, and picture capabilities, which the last generation lacked. The screen is also much wider, allowing it to easily fit in your pocket (perfect for running to and from classes every day).

The battery life of the iPod is long-lasting. On a long drive north, from Long Beach to Sacramento, a fully charged nano uses less than half of the battery after seven hours. Not bad.

The nano also differs from the last generation by displaying a split screen, where album art or personal pictures drift on one half, and the scroll menu on the other. It adds a bit of flavor to the once dull, scroll-down menu.

It makes a great gift for those who don’t quite want to splurge the extra cash for the iPod touch or traditional iPod, but still want a quality product with a bit of flair and fun qualities.

The new generation of iPod nanos proves that Apple can make exceptional products for even a college student’s limited budget.
