49ers clinch No. 1 in Big West
Stephanie Bengson tied the Long Beach State record for wins in singles play while helping the No. 35-ranked 49ers clinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Big West Tournament. LBSU swept Cal Poly, 7-0, Thursday. The senior prevailed over Steffi Wong 6-3 and 6-3 to tie Havaja Frljuckic’s 21-year-old school record of 70 wins.
Men’s Volleyball
LBSU 2-0 on season-ending road trip
No. 4-ranked 49ers squeaked out a five-game victory over Pacific (30-24, 26-30, 30-24, 30-32 and 15-12) Friday evening and swept No. 8-ranked Stanford (30-24, 30-25 and 30-17) Saturday evening. LBSU is currently in a three-way tie with No. 2-ranked CS Northridge and No. 3-ranked Brigham Young with 16-4 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation records.The 49ers will finish the season with matches at No. 14-ranked UC Santa Barbara and Northridge.
Softball
No. 14-ranked LBSU wins series at Northridge
Senior shortstop Jessica Beaver was 4-for-4 at the plate with a leadoff home run as LBSU took the season series at CS Northridge with a 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon. Beaver’s homer gives her four on the season and 19 in her LBSU career.
