Art showcase to display Fusion of art forms

The student art galleries aren’t the only place where you can see a fellow 49er’s work. On March 22, Cal State Long Beach will branch out into the downtown Long Beach community to showcase the many talents that have come from current art students and alumni.

The event is going to fuse art, music, theatre, design, film and dance together in the event called ‘Fusion.”

Organizers said the event is important to the university and the community because it will bring unity to the art departments at CSULB.

“I just feel like we don’t collaborate at all. We really don’t know about each other’s work and that’s kind of sad and tragic,” said Fusion coordinator Patricia Garza.

Garza is a graduate student at CSULB.

“This event was borne out of my passion to explore interdisciplinary relationships with all the departments of art,” Garza said.

Fusion will generate exposure for CSULB’s art programs and the students that are featured that night.

The evening starts with films at 6 p.m. and live performances an hour later. Guests should expect performances from Alive Theatre, a dance team called Domino Effect, and other individuals from CSULB.

Along with art that’s already prepared, there will “be live art.”

“The Society of Student Illustrators are also going to be on the side doing ‘live art,’ which is where they are actually painting and creating art their at the space,” Garza said.

All are welcome to spend the evening with artists on Smooth’s Sports Grille’s rooftop at 144 Pine Ave. in downtown Long Beach. This event is free.

Event coordinators say the event will continue and turn into an annual event.
